Malacca... Where have all the Portuguese gone?

Hmmm... let me be honest with you guys... I suck in history... i hate history... so... i really don't know what I'm gonna write next....

Malacca... a Histrionic City... once ruled by Portuguese... (is it?)
Suppose to have all different kinds of western food or rather some western fusion food right? what the heck with all the Nyonya Nyonya food... can't you guys have some creativity... & not just Nyonya food & Penang Fried Kueh Teow? lately i aslo found out that there's not even 1 Italian restaurant around here.... oh? Portuguese & Italian not ngam 1 mer? how come there's isn't any here? ok... They JUST put up a sign in front of Renaissance Hotel, Malacca. Italian restaurant opening soon... so i guess this year's christmas... they gonna make a fortune out of it? haha
Malacca folks finally have the chance to enjoy Italians for their Christmas~ hurray~

But then it's still opening soon... for the time being... the only known proper Western Food is this?

Taro... situated in Dataran Pahlawan... from the outside... it looks a like bar... but seriously... i don't even think they got a bar in it... i wonder who thought of the name for it... Taro... this is what i found in Wikipedia...

Taro (from Tahitian or other Polynesian languages), more rarely kalo (from Hawaiian), is a tropical plant grown primarily as a vegetable food for its edible corm, and secondarily as a leaf vegetable. It is believed to be one of the earliest cultivated plants. Taro is closely related to Xanthosoma and Caladium, plants commonly grown as ornamentals, and like them it is sometimes loosely called elephant ear. In its raw form the plant is toxic due to the presence of calcium oxalate, although the toxin is destroyed by cooking or can be removed by keeping Taro roots in cold water overnight.

It's Toxic har? cool~

People tend to use all this kind of rare vegetable or spices used in french cuisine for restaurant name... does it really make it sound so attractive?
yeah... like most of the rare vegetable restaurant... Taro restaurant... most of the food inside are using Taro as 1 of their ingredient.. so they are restricted from serving foods other than western food.. like Japanese? Taro Sushi... ooo.... if it's raw... & the chef forgot to soak it in cold water... somebody gonna get poisoned~ heh

ok la... the setting of the restaurant is not bad after the all... with the right lighting.. simple & elegant settings... & weird dressed waitress.... this could be 1 of the best place to dine in with your love ones during special occasion... they have all these small LCD screen hung all around the place... even at the entrance & it's showing the menu.. so people won't need to flip through the pages & have a glimpse of what is the restaurant is offering? they would have to wait for the screen to turn slowly 1 by 1.. if they missed the specialty of it... they would have to stand there & wait for the slide to rotate back~ ooo... what convenience~

Speaking of the menu... there isn't really much of a choice... only 2 soups... 2 appetizers.... a few main course... 5 deserts... 5 different brand of SPARKLING JUICE... some variety of TEA... oh hey~ i just told all the things in the menu~ speaking of using Taro in their menu.. haha~

but then im still confused of what to choose from the so limited choice... not when i saw this~

why?
this is the reason...

inspired by the movie ratatouille... i was always wondered what & how would it taste like...

well... as i also found in wikipedia... it's just 'tossed vegatable' hmmm....
so are these Ratatouille? boiled vegetable?!

for me.. i always prefer to have juicy soft meat instead of fully cooked & Chewy meat... so as always... i ordered medium... & wah la... they really made their promise... not bad~ but then... the size portion of the food is rather disappointing.. That's it for Rm48???!!! but what to do? It's FIRST GRADE AUSTRALIAN LAMB.... so who's the lamb? this came with it... Red Sparkling juice...

next up... if im not mistaken... Taro was used in the seasoning of this fish fillet...

ermm... it's good la... but then how does Taro taste like jeh?

Wild mushroom soup~ ah~ taste of wild... grrrrr.....

not to missed is what they gave as side dishes... normally u guys know lor... they give mash potato or french fries 1 mar... but then... this is Taro man.... they serve you Fried Sweet potato wedges & mashed sweet potato...

Finally... desert... THIS IS NOT GULAB JAMUN....
It's called... Chilled taro... something something... i forgot what it's called.. wtf bout calling it taro something something... it's Kuih DODOL! WTF................

Taro restaurant... Food wise.... i give it a 8/10
But then... poor selection of food & DRINKS... weird waitress outfit... 7/10 la....

PS: due to over stayed of more than 2 weeks in Malacca... I'm kinda frustrated~ haha

Northern Hotel restaurant~

For u guys who does not know Chinese... yes... that's the direct translation for <北栈食馆>
& i think i better cut off all these direct translation thingy... As Im a Malaysian Chinese... Born & raised in Malaysia to serve the country... wtf........................

Bei Zhan... alot of of my fellow classmates have been talking bout it... i think just simply there's an advertisement board right outside of the college... See~ the power of advertisement... but yeah... this place is not bad at all... In contrast of the last posting bout renovation & settings of the restaurant... really can be compare as Heaven & hell~

When i took this pic... the people from the next table suddenly all turn & look to the site where im snapping the photo.... hahaha

yeah... this is nothing special right? any higher class restaurant can do better... but here comes the best thing bout Bei Zhan... the price is absolutely cheap for a place like this... well... i think i better don't use the word cheap... how bout.... Super Worth it... just to come & see their settings & renovation~

The outside... it seems as high class as inside lor... with all the Bamboos... The restaurant can be seen from a far distance... made it easily recognizable...

Speaking bout the food now...
behold~~~

Japanese spare rib
>Rib bone marinated for... ermm... quite some time.... taste is good... but taste of pork & consistency of pork is completely gone... so basically it'll be the same if they use the sauce to cook it with ping pong biscuit...

Fried venison With Ginger & Spring onion
> My long missed dish... taste is... something missing....

Braised Bean curd with Carb Meat
> Superb taste... right consistency... Chef recommendation... Must Order Food!

Fried Asparagus With X.O. paste
> Over cooked asparagus... X.O. paste is good....

So.... actually out of 4 dishes... 3 dish is on borderline passing...
Conclusion... The food im giving is 6/10...
but as i mentioned... the price is where the credit is given....
Total of RM63.74 inclusive of 5% Gov. tax... NO SERVICE TAX with good service~
So Overall Bei Zhan Score.. I'll Give it a 7.5/10

Not to miss out... the way they serving rice is like the Thailand style... meaning the waiter brings out a big big bowl of rice the serve it on your plate instead of serving you bowl by bowl... so.. I'm guessing the rice is unlimited? I forgot to ask~
& they have waiters with Super fast rice serving technique... without you noticing... there is already rice on ur plate... i managed to snap 1 of the photo while they were serving rice....

Im joking.....

Back to the Future for food~

After coming down from Happy Peak...
we almost cracked our heads thinking of where to eat... we passed by a few restaurant that we mentioned... because of the dissatisfaction of mine... having to come back to KL... i think i'm still having the feeling of wanna devour the whole KL... so i have to hunt for all the nice & bestest food i can ever find... mom gave some simple n very cin cai suggestion... so obviously i rejected it...
so... what to eat this time ler? it's late... i'm hungry... although we had a very nice & cheap buffet inside Genting Casino...
speaking of the which... the buffet inside the casino really is nice... although there's very limited of choice~ but the food is really nice... it's a buffet... selection are limited... so what? just enjoy whatever u like la~
KY... if u happen to come here again... try to go there & blog about it... cause i don't think i'll be going to happy peak anytime soon... i have to control myself... as the wise said...

Only 2 kinds of people in this world would not be succesful...
The lazy bump & a gambler....

ok... back to the original topic.... so as our vehicle approaches PJ, State area... 1 place suddenly just struck into my mind... a place where my long never seen friend told me... it was at least 4 years ago when he told me bout it~ yes... AT LEAST 4 years ago i wanted to try this... so y is it a pain for thinking where to eat everytime ler.... sien........

hmm... the name of the restaurant is actually what's its specialty...
炒薯粉小食馆 'Chao Shu Fun Small restaurant'? hahaha

It basicly a small hawker stall built with woodern board... hey! it's air-conditioned ok~~~
but then we had some difficulty of looking for the place also.... u c... it's situated behind a small lil' back street.. although there's a very easy landmark... u just need to go in the small road next to the post office in Old Klang Road....

so... this is the entrance...
It's Situated some where like this~

the inside of it...

Seriously... the place might appear to be gross to some people... as the 'renovation' is really done by some uncle who know how to hold a hammer i think.... but this is the way of a classic hawker stall style restaurant... And the food is really good my friends....

so.... what is 炒薯粉(direct translatation: Fried Tapioca Noodle)
my guess... they use the tapioca powder & mix with water to make into dough... then tear it into pieces... just like the ordinary Ban Mein... The consistency is similiar to Kueh Teow~
The taste of it is really fantastic... not too oily... the right taste...

This is not a piece of Animal Fat.... it's the Tapioca Noodle~

This is somethign we ordered... & also... i don't know what is it call in english....
& ya... i also forgot what is it called in Chinese.... it's good~
haha

The Map~

For this... i give it a 8/10
i couldn't recall when is the last time i actually wanted to finish up the whole plate of noodle with much of satisfaction... this is good...

We miss u uncle Lim~

Ya... uncle Lim has left us for nearly 3 weeks now... despite his contribution towards malaysia... Heard from my uncle that he was a very very very humble man... came to malaysia with just USD150.. he was the 3rd richest man in Malaysia & 204th richest man on earth... 204th... hmmm.... at 1st i thought he would be at least within 100 or something... anyway... he's uncle lim... no wonder he told my uncle that he's not really that rich... haha

so... in memorable of uncle Lim... i decided to go & have a look at the Goh Tong Memorial Garden.. but sorry... i didn't take any picture as dad was driving... & i think u guys probably seen it in the news right? ya... as seen on TV~ it's situated near Awana which is just by the only road's roadside... it means that he can observe all the people which are going up & down to his... ermm.... Happy Peak~

so... u guys should oledi noe wut's up there... no updates... nothing new... boring.......
conclusion of the day's trip.....

Don't gamble liao la boy........

After getting down from happy peak... we went to bukit tinggi since it's another 2 hours til dinner time... it's about half an hour from genting... as you approaches the turning into bukit tinggi... there's a 'Kampung Bukit Tinggi'.... dun turn in there my frens... it's just a KAMPUNG!
i wonder which existed 1st... the kampung or the luxurious Berjaya resort... haha
anyway.... here's the map...

complete with a club house with some facilities... a rabbit park, french village, japanese tea house & a botanical garden... it's just Rm16 for a day entry... not bad for a 1 day trip actually... but for the rabbit park... u may just pay Rm3 for a single entry if you don't have sufficient time to visit all the place...
It's 1 n a half hours b4 dinner time... rabbit park only lor....

some of the rabbits are being locked up in individual cages.. so i thought they're not safe to be hold? hmmm... but no... it's actually a nursery for rabbit babies with their mom... see~

oooooooo.......... so cute....
as i was trying to snap pictues of some more of the rabbits running around...

suddenly.....

i heard screaming....
as wut i heard from any zombie movies....

uuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh eeeee........

AHHhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
wut's wrong with all these kids....
they came in a bus...
ermm... no...
a few bus............
as wut i've seen in zombie movies....
they started to chase all the innocent rabbit around.... some even trying to grap them & bite it or something.... i remember see-ing this scene from ...
oh crap........ where's the teacher or wutever???!!!
as i was thinking to myself... a lady in her 30's came... ok... i suppose the teacher is here... ok.. kids....behave....

not........................................
the teacher chase the rabbits together with the kids......

-_________-|||

ok....
it's time to go...........

bye.... to... ermmm.....
Right...........

About the video.... can u guys hear all the screaming around? ya... tat's how bad it was....

stay tune for some foods coming up next~

ya! let me put the blame on him~
hahahaha

see... studying in med school isn't really so fun~
despite all the hard work & stressful environment....
during lectures... u dun have to worry bout lecturers asking you questions...
because they will always ask their favourite student to answer questions...
but i wonder why they keep asking the 2 fellas who's not in our class...
everytime the lecturers will go like.....

What's the defination of blah blah blah.....
Annie Wan?
Sum Bo Dee?

who is that ar? & i wonder why nobody tells the lecturers both of them are not in our class...

Time for food again.... i think form now on... i'll just start to imitate kyspeaks.com
(sorry to copy your style without asking)
but i'll just concentrate on melaka la... wut to do... so busy everyday... where got time to go other place ler....
